...... inspired by nature

Ceramic artist Susan Greenleaf did her early art studies at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX,   Cambridge MA,  New York City, and the Columbia Visual Arts Center/Antioch University in Columbia, MD.   Later she studied, apprenticed and taught in Geneva Switzerland.  She has exhibited at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian, the Folger Shakespeare Ann Hathaway gallery and has done two one-person shows at the National Zoo Gallery.   Over the years, Susan has had numerous exhibits across the U.S. and in Europe and her work can be found in collections worldwide.   A Washington, D.C. commission on the Arts and Humanities grant winner and many-time award winner at Creative Craft Council shows,  her work has been published in Ceramics Monthly, Smithsonian Magazine, Washington Post, the Lark Publications, and a cover story in Washington Fine Craft Magazine.  She is currently represented primarily at the Studio 22-Fire One gallery at the Torpedo Factory Art center in Alexandria, VA and Greenbridge Pottery in Dayton, MD.

Susan continues to explore form and surface texture with a strong involvement in the mysteries of the natural world.  This abiding passion for nature has taken her in an additional direction, quite recently as a designer for the McIntyre Tile Factory, in Healdsburg, CA, where she is developing several new lines of sculptural tiles in botanical themes.  Her current work also includes a series of collaborations with Rebecca Moy Behre, at Greenbridge Pottery in Dayton, MD where this year's works include a series of bas-relief horse theme vases and mugs in celadon glazed white stoneware and porcelain slip  on red stoneware (brushed & carved).

A frequent guest instructor on the Washington DC/ Virginia/Maryland art college and  art center workshop circuit,  Susan maintains studios at Studio 22-Fire One at the Torpedo Factory and at her home in Washington DC.  Susan is also the proud mother of two richly talented college students.
